MICROWAVE TRANSPORT NETWORK TOPOLOGY
Conterra wireless backhaul networks can simultaneously deliver SONET/TDM and Ethernet services to each cellsite. Transport can be SONET based to carry TDM services and Ethernet over SONET, or Ethernet based with TDM services transported via pseudoemulation. Conterra can provide point-to-point Ethernet Virtual Circuits (EVCs) and Virtual WANs in accordance with Metro Ethernet Forum standards, or provide Layer Three functionality. Additional features using carrier ethernet technology are available.

Fiber carrier partner hand offs can be SONET or Ethernet based. Conterra can provide network switching functionality, or the fiber partner may collocate network elements such as SONET ADMs or Ethernet switches in Conterra cellsite installations to provide a seamless, homogeneous network if desired. Fiber partners can locate customer premise equipment at wireless carrier end sites or have Conterra provide the T1, DS3, and Ethernet drops to customers. Fiber partner network management traffic can traverse the Conterra network in a separate Layer 2 Ethernet network or over SONET DCC channels so the fiber carrier can employ existing network management systems. Additionally, Conterra can provide the fiber carrier partner with access to Conterra network management system or direct network element access via IP/SNMP. Conterra maintains a 7x24 hour NOC which can interface directly with the fiber carrier partner NOC to provide rapid and efficient resolution of network faults for the end customer.
